John Fisher (priest)
The Ven John Fisher〔(People painted by Constable )〕 was Archdeacon of Berkshire from 1817 to 1832.〔(Fitzwilliam Museum )〕
Born at Brentford on 30 May 1788,〔(Genealogical web-site )〕 he was educated at Charterhouse and Christ's College, Cambridge and ordained in 1812. His first post was as Domestic Chaplain to his uncle, the Bishop of Salisbury.〔Nigel Aston, ‘Fisher, John (1748–1825)’, Oxford Dictionary of National Biography, Oxford University Press, 2004; online edn, May 2009 (accessed 2 Oct 2013 )〕 He held incumbencies at Idmiston, Osmington, Winfrith Newburgh and Gillingham, Dorset. He was appointed a Canon of Salisbury Cathedral in 1819.
